limoni

A team of chemists from Tarragona has developed a method to produce polycarbonate from limonene and carbon dioxide. From the lemon, they have made an ecological polycarbonate without bisphenol extracting the limonene, the aromatic hydrocarbon responsible for the scent that releases the citrus fruits. It's a material that aims to represent the ecological alternative to bisphenol A (BPA), which is believed to have detrimental effects on the endocrine system and hormonal systems.
Provoking a reaction between the limonene oxide, which can be isolated not only from the lemons but also from the oranges, with the carbon dioxide is obtained the compound called Polylemon carbonate "PLDC", which could gradually supplant the bisphenol A in the industry.
