picnic

In 15th August, as soon as Easter Monday, the picnic is an established tradition: on the beach, in the countryside or at mountains, it's important to eat outside. The origin of the term is controversial: it could be derived from English pick "collect" and nick "instant" or from French piquer "pick" and nique "little thing". Over time they have lost the origins of this word, because it was a custom rooted in both countries. Picnic, intended as outdoor dining, frugal and informal was practiced in the eighteenth century especially at the end of the hunt. Much appreciated by the aristocrats, during the nineteenth century was also preferred for breakfast, to eat a meal in joy or as an ideal opportunity for courtship in parks, gardens, beach or by the river.
However, the practice of outdoor dining was already widespread before the birth of the term, especially among the peasants who remained all day to work the fields and so they were have to bring lunch from home and eat outdoors.
