June is the first summer month in the Northern hemisphere and the first winter month in the Southern Hemisphere. The 21st officially begins this season with the summer solstice. On this date there is Earth's axis tilt occurs to produce the maximum exposure to day light. It is, therefore, the longest day of the year, in opposition to December 22, which is the shortest.
On June 2, in Italy we celebrate the Republic Day, in memory of the date of the plebiscite of 1946, when Italians were called to the polls to choose the form of government of the country.
