If the cold wave that hit Italy has brought with it problems and inconvenience, in return, especially for agriculture it represented an interesting turning point in the fight plant diseases.
The South, characterized by a climate predominantly mild, after the scourge of Xylella, thanks to the cold of this last week, might be able to cope more easily this bacterium responsible for the die-off of trees, especially in the Salento.
Although the cold does not kill the Xylella, it hits its insect vector, the “froghopper” Philaenus spumarius and a similar insect harmful to the vine, the “golden buzzer” Scaphoideus titanus, thus effectively preventing the spread of plant diseases.
