The inventor Sergio Rico Velasco has named "Solid Rain" his system that revolutionized the Mexican agriculture, allowing record harvesting even in semi-desert areas that previously had a minimum yield.
No coincidence that this product was developed in Mexico, a country with serious problems of drought, and the slogan of the company that sells it is "Save water for future generations, one drop at a time".
It derives from a super-absorbing polymer, originally used in the production of nappies for babies, is non-toxic and non-polluting and can absorb up to 500 times its own weight. Mixed with the soil, Solid Rain becomes gelatinous in contact with water, that does not evaporate, is not dispersed and is able to remain in the soil and retain water up to 8 or 10 years. Thanks to the important water reserve that it represent, the yield with the Solid Rain is outstanding: for example in the beans cultivation the yield per hectare is increased from 450 to 3000 kg.
