Although the cold kill most insects and bacteria, many of them manage to survive by building shelters: the case of the procession moth of conifers (Thaumetopoea pityocampa), which creates a silky white nest on the branches.
This moth affects mostly pines, widespread in the Mediterranean area and in larval form is extremely dangerous for humans and animals, because of the stinging hairs on its body that can cause serious irritations to skin, eye and breathing.
In this period can begin the fight to these insects, against whom there is the decree of the mandatory combat to which the infestation must be reported to the Regional Phytosanitary Service, which will decide the modalities of intervention:

- The collection and destruction of nests that contain the larvae;

- The action of professionals who shoot to nests with shotgun pellets, in order to determine the rupture;

- Chemical or microbiological control.
