There are very few insects harmful to plants, which may affect very heavily on agricultural production and compromise the yield. However, there are many insects "friends" of the garden, which feed on insect pests very limiting the damage caused by them. Among these the ladybug is definitely the best known insect, so that has become the symbol of organic farming.
To procure these insects, we can resort to specialized companies that raise and sell them, or we can plant in our garden particular plants that attract them. The ladybugs are particularly enticed by broccoli, cauliflower and radishes, but there are many herbs and flowering affecting the so-called beneficial insects.
It might be interesting, therefore, to design our garden to include borders or small beds of marigold, potentilla, dandelion, geraniums, lilies, sage, thyme, coriander, dill, yarrow, tansy, angelic, but also garlic, fennel and nettle.
