almanacco Gennaio

January begins with one of the most important events: the New Year, followed the 6th by Epiphany, train of Christmas, that "... all the festivities clear away".
The Epiphany is a Christian festival celebrated twelve days after Christmas. The name derives from the greek and means manifestation, apparition, which refers precisely to the first manifestation of Jesus in the presence of the Magi. The Epiphany is also associated with the figure of the Befana. In this regard there are conflicting legends: one says that the Befana was an old lady, who do not arriving in time to the hut of Jesus to bring the gifts with the Magi, along the way distributed the gifts to all the children she met. Another legend refers to the pagan festival in honor of Mother Nature, about 12 days after the winter solstice. Mother Nature, tired from spending all his energies during the year, appeared in the form of an old benevolent witch, flying with a broom and, before cooling off in the following year, distributed gifts and seeds to plant in the year new.
