The name of March, derived from de roman god of the war Mars, because was the month that usually began wars.
According to the Julian calendar introduced by Julius Caesar in 45 b.C, while the term calendae (hence calendar) indicated the first days of the month, the ides was half, 13 or 15, which could vary depending on the number of days of the month.
In particular, the ides of March also marked the beginning of spring and, ironically, Julius Caesar was assassinated in the day of Ides of March 44 b.C., the 15th.
Astronomically this is the month that ends the winter to give way to spring, precisely on the day 20, the spring equinox, when day and night have the same duration.
