Berndt August Hjorth

In 1862 Johan Petter Johansson established his company, Enköpings Mekaniska Verkstad in Sweden. It was a clever and creative craftsman and to him we owe inventions such as pipe wrench and adjustable key, in addition to other 116 patents accumulated over his lifetime.
In 1890 Berndt August Hjorth acquired the rights for the commercialization of Enköpings Mekaniska Verkstad products and, subsequently, took over the entire company, which became part of BA Hjorth & Co., contract name BAHCO.
Following a deep crisis in the European steel industry in the ’70 of eight hundred century, only the hard and tough steel application for the creation of fish hooks was able to revive the sector and when it started the production of blades in 1886the brand chosen by Bahco was the fish with the hook, that would communicate the particular properties of strength and endurance of steel.
bahcoThe brand is one of the oldest recorded, and the “Fish & Hook” icon is still incorporated into all Bahco tools as a guarantee of high quality, performance and productivity.
Over the years there have been many developments and acquisitions, but Bahco remains the prince brand of hand tools. Today is the flagship of SNA Europe.
