Pino

The Christmas tree par excellence, the fir tree grows in the mountains, while the pine grow both to sea and to mountains.
The main difference between these two evergreen conifers is that in spruce needles are arranged individually on the branches and are very short, while those of the pine are grouped in tufts and long ten centimeters.
In Italy there are many species of pine, both in alpine areas than in coastal. The fir is rather widespread in our area only at high altitude, but it is a typically Nordic plant.

Abete

They are evergreen species, because they keep their leaves all year round, even during the winter and for these resistance characteristics were considered plants from exceptional powers. Hence the Nordic custom of decorating the fir tree for Christmas.
