At a time when traditional agriculture is in crisis, different entrepreneurs get involved themselves adapting to market demands and aiming for niche or exotic crops.
It's the case of ginger, a plant native of Asia, which has become famous in recent years thanks to the anti-inflammatory and digestive properties of its rhizomes.
This plant prefers rather warm climates, for this reason in our country could develop without problems to the South, however, with some tricks like greenhouses or mulches, it's possible to cultivate it everywhere.
It's important to start from organic farming, rhizomes which have not been treated with antibudding products and use a sandy soil that promotes drainage avoiding water stagnations. This plant does not love the direct sun and is hardly prone to diseases or parasitic attacks. The harvest is carried out on average 5 months after the burying of the rhizomes, in autumn.
